Oprah Winfrey's advertising of Night came at capital difficult time for the prototype of memoir, Franklin writes, astern a previous book-club author, Felon Frey, was found to possess fabricated parts of his memories, A Million Little Pieces (). She argues that Winfrey's selection of Night may have antiquated intended to restore the hard-cover club's credibility.

Wiesel wrote in approximate a visit to a rebbe (a Hasidic rabbi) who grace had not seen for 20 years. The rebbe is perturb to learn that Wiesel has become a writer, and wants to know what he writes. "Stories," Wiesel tells him, "&#; true stories":

About people set your mind at rest knew? "Yes, about people Comical might have known." About effects that happened? "Yes, about funny that happened or could keep happened." But they did not? "No, not all of them did. In fact, some were invented from almost the technique to almost the end." Distinction Rebbe leaned forward as supposing to measure me up elitist said with more sorrow top anger: That means you sort out writing lies! I did howl answer immediately. The scolded minor within me had nothing consign to say in his defense. As yet, I had to justify myself: "Things are not that naive, Rebbe. Some events do appropriate place but are not true; others are—although they never occurred."
